Our neighbors had a visitor over the weekend who arrived in this gorgeous Corvette convertible, giving us the opportunity to admire this dreamy car all afternoon. I did a little research and was able to pinpoint the year, 1961, by the style and the fact there was no chrome around the headlights, all paint – a design change for ’61. Fans of the television show “Mad Men” will appreciate the following advertising copy from the 1961 Corvette brochure – I can almost hear Don Draper’s voice during the pitch….
AMERICA’S SPORTS CAR GETS A NEW LOOK!
Take a classic sports car. Give it tasteful new styling. That’s Corvette in 1961. Starting with the sleek rear deck, it’s clean, uncluttered. From this point forward, it becomes obvious this new Corvette was designed to be driven. No matter what the occasion – black tie or tennis shoes – Corvette is appropriate. If you’re an enthusiastic rallyist, an about-towner, a countryside explorer or all three, Corvette matches your mood.
As an “about-towner” and “countryside explorer,” I am sold!
Taking these pictures and dreaming up Mad Men episodes was fun, but wouldn’t it be nice to look out your window one day and see a car like this wrapped in a giant bow with your name on it?
